About the Marathon
Welcome to the Mega Man Marathon! This is a video game marathon, spanning 14 games, over the course of
a single weekend (July 11th - July 13th). This will be a fundraising event, to raise money for the
Child's Play charity.
We were inspired by past efforts, one of which was able to raise over 11,000 dollars.
That's a lot of money!
These past marathons include Cameron Banga and his friends,
who went off to finish 4 3-D zelda games within 48 hours, as well as
Brian Brinegar, who, with his old college roomates managed to pull
off a marathon of the 7 primary Mario games, in one weekend.

About Child's Play
In a nut shell, Child's Play is a charitable
organization that seeks to improve the lives of children in hospitals around the world. They do
this by raising money (which annually, has started to come in by the millions) to provide these
children with books, games, and toys.
Child's Play was started in late 2003 by Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, the authors of
Penny Arcade.
More information can be found at the Child's Play official site. Please donate! It's a good cause!
The Games
We will be tackling 14 games from the Mega Man series. These games include Mega
Man 1-8, as well as X-X6. We
will probably be using both the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for GameCube, as
well as the Mega Man X Collection for GameCube.
If you were to add up the total times it takes to complete these 14 games, based on the
speed runs found at the Speed Demos Archive,
it comes to around 14 hours. Considering we are not nearly as good as those speedrunners,
we estimate it'll probably take anywhere between 30-36 hours.
UPDATE: Changed the above, as we are now doing 14 games.
The Order
As of now, we will go through the remaining games as follows:
Mega Man 8
Mega Man X6
Mega Man X3
Mega Man 2
Mega Man and Bass
Mega Man Zero
Mega Man Zero 2
Mega Man Zero 3
Mega Man Zero 4
The Set-Up
We are at least initially using a
Nintendo Wii
to play to play
the GameCube version of
Mega Man Anniversary Collection
and the
Mega Man X Collection.
We are using the
HORI Digital GameCube controller,
which has a nice D-Pad and is very similar to the
SNES pad. However, even considering the similaries, we might
end up plugging in our
Super Nintendo
to play some of the X
games, as the face button layout will probably work better.
We are making use of a few of the several computers in our
posession, for both the live feed and for doing live updates
of the site. For the feed, we are using a
Quickcam Ultra Vision SE
and a piece of software called
WebcamMax,
which is very useful
for its Picture-in-Picture capabilities. For the game input, we
are using a PVR card, the
Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE,
along with the
WinTV software
to capture the image. The full feed/PiP image is
being broadcast through the
uStream
live video broadcast web service.
